A Wild Heart and Primal Wisdom: The Alchemy of Trusting Your Body
A fern growing out of a mossy hill accented with fallen with pine needles and a hidden cursive JTL with circle logo

Hello, my dearest Adventurers!

This week, I’m sharing some things I’ve never really shared before—mostly because I’ve only realized them about myself relatively recently. I never fully subscribed to the polished version of society: the “perfect” life, family, career, and friends. I’ve always been called to just do what I felt like doing, but I never truly allowed myself to do that. As a child, I made all kinds of rules surrounding my life that only worked way back then. Now as an adult, I feel suffocated by those old rules that once kept me safe and out of conflict. I am ready to fully embody the person I know I am.

I’m moving away from using logic-driven, analytical, and negotiation-fueled tactics to understand my nervous system in the middle of a trigger response. That approach is useful at times, but for the most part, I had been negotiating the fuck out of things that bring me fear—without looking at where they even came from or identifying the true trigger behind the surface-level emotions. I realized that the pain went deeper than just surface fear, anger, anxiety, despair, or rejection. I also realized that the joy, excitement, safety, peace, happiness, and ease I felt were deeper than simple emotions. Our bodies are always communicating with us, and mine has only gotten louder these past couple of months.

It’s important to honor our bodies and slow down to listen to them—even when it feels confusing, up in the air, discombobulated, or strange. Our bodies hold onto so much of what happens in our lives, and it is vital to recognize that we can access this information with patience and consistency. Our bodies are ancient beings that are inherently wise. They are built to accommodate us for our entire lives, and they hold the key to our full authenticity. They keep us grounded and naturally aware of our internal state. They are not broken; they are simply expressing their need to feel safe and secure. They are not the problem—they are the solution.

If you’re ready to step into that raw, primal version of yourself—the version that lives without fearing other people’s reactions, opinions, and rules on how you ought to live your life—then you’re in the right place. Here, we are growing and learning to truly thrive. We all must start somewhere, and I’m here to get those gears turning!

So, pull up a comfy seat with your favorite beverage as we step into our highest timelines while honoring the nature within. When you’re ready, I will guide you to the door of this new reality.

I. The Trap of the Polished, Clinical Self

Modern culture teaches us to suppress raw feelings, stay polite, and ignore our bodies as if they aren't to be trusted. But that couldn't be farther from the truth. We're here for a reason, so you best believe our bodies are reacting in the ways they do for a reason! There's nothing wrong with identifying your feelings, sensations, and urges—the real issue comes when you write them off. They are all valid, just as you are for having them. It is simply part of the human experience.

Sometimes I forget that I am human and that I have needs and desires that don't match other people's expectations. That's okay, but what I need to do is offer compassion to myself. I have started doing just that: encouraging that raw energy to actually move through my body. When you encourage your body to express the full spectrum of who you are, you begin to feel deeply safe within yourself. This level of safety is necessary for you to thrive and grow; you cannot step into your highest timeline while feeling fundamentally insecure within your own skin.

Reducing yourself to make others feel secure or comfortable might feel like the right move in the moment, but let's call it what it really is: fear. It’s the fear of being "too much" or being seen as something other than what you've always been—civilized, polite, calm, tame, and productive, never daring to step out of line. This exact phrasing might not hit "on the money" for everyone, but trust me when I say that the fear of becoming someone new causes genuine unrest and chaos within the body. I don't care who you are; we all experience this to a degree.

I need you to realize that stepping into a version of yourself you are truly proud of is not as easy as it seems. We've talked about this throughout the blog: the brain inherently hates change and uncertainty. When you evolve into someone you've never been before, the brain can misinterpret that shift as a life-or-death situation. When that happens, it triggers an internal battle. It can feel like your whole world is crashing down, like you've set everything on fire and just want to run back to safety. But this discomfort is only the beginning of the most meaningful work you can do for yourself. It is uncomfortable, but this is precisely why we began this month by burning our old identities in the fires of change.

When someone or something triggers you, it isn't your body being weak—it's your body trying to tell you something critical. A boundary has likely been crossed at a foundational level, and I can bet you it isn't the first time. Even when stepping into situations that are fundamentally better for you, it may feel tempting to retreat simply because you've never experienced that level of alignment before. Both chaos and growth can feel dysregulating to an unanchored nervous system. That's why consistency and clear intention are vital to reprogramming our subconscious. It takes about 21 days of intentional practice for new habits to build solid neural pathways in the brain and truly become second nature.

II. The Intelligence of the Mammal Heart

A Quick Disclaimer Before We Dive In: Before we lean all the way into this section, please note that I am not an accredited healthcare or psychological professional. If you are experiencing any strange or unusual physical sensations, it is always better to be safer than sorry—please go get checked out by a professional. Thank you!

1. The Three Intelligence Centers of the Body

When stepping into a place of full body acceptance, it helps to understand that your nervous system is made of millions of nerves—and there are three very distinct places on the body where they cluster more than anywhere else:

  • The Brain (Central Nervous System / CNS): Packed with nearly 100 billion nerve cells, the brain is responsible for interpreting signals and data obtained by all other nerves and responding accordingly. It is the crucial, central component that processes our reality.
  • The Gut Brain (Enteric Nervous System / ENS): Directly connected to the CNS, the gut brain is made of over 100 million nerve cells that control appetite, certain hormones, enzymes, and mood. It is the most ancient part of us and the first to form in the womb. I believe it is the main engine behind our intuition because the entire gut is literally a physical portal—a direct tube that takes physical matter from the external world into our innermost parts, processing and redistributing it for us to use. This realization hit me like a download from the Creator one night while watching the clouds: this tube passing through our bodies is an intimate, visceral bridge between our internal world and the universe around us. (I talk more about this at length in my post: "Stop Ignoring Your Gut - Why Your Intuition is Your Best Guide").
  • The Heart Brain (Intrinsic Cardiac Nervous System / ICNS): Housing around 40,000 specialized nerve cells, the heart brain assists the heart in beating independently while sending signals back to the brain that directly affect mood, stress, and thoughts. It even holds its own form of memory!

2. Understanding the Language of the Nervous System

Our bodies are full of ancient wisdom and knowledge that we can only begin to tap into when we learn the native language of the nervous system. The nervous system doesn't speak in words or logic—it speaks in sensations, emotions, feelings, and energy. This is why audio and visual art hit us so profoundly; art provokes deep emotion without needing language or analytical reasoning.

While the brain thrives on a mix of logic and creativity, the heart and gut brains do not understand language at all—they understand raw experience. By building a clear connection to the ENS and ICNS, we gain a direct line to information our mind can't even comprehend yet (because the brain needs to rationalize and analyze the fuck out of everything that comes through!).

The primary language of your body comes down to two main sensations: expansion and contraction.

  • Expansion: If something feels expansive, open, or light, it is in alignment. We are naturally designed to expand and grow in our lives.
  • Contraction: If something feels tight, constricted, or heavy, it is out of alignment with your true self.

It takes consistent practice to feel and interpret these physical cues. Keep in mind that your mind will try to mind-fuck everything, so the very first thought or physical sensation you experience is usually the true one.

3. Breaking the Trauma Loops & Owning Your Power

Working from this bodily understanding helps pinpoint where your feelings originate. But hear me on this: it is not 100% necessary to understand the exact origin of every trigger in order to heal it. Some trigger origins will elude us forever, and it is completely okay not to know.

I simply find it helpful for the healing process to understand who you were when a boundary was crossed for the very first time. The stories our minds spin can feel incredibly real, adding to the impact of the trigger every single time we let the mental movie play. These loops keep us trapped.

The good news? You can rewrite the story to better suit your needs, transforming yourself into a person of power rather than a victim. When we operate from a victim mentality, we trap ourselves as someone who constantly needs to be saved—instead of recognizing that we can get ourselves to safety.

Now, needing support is entirely different. If you need assistance working through deep trauma or triggers that leave you feeling powerless, I heavily encourage seeking professional help. This work isn't easy. I always tell you that this is some of the most challenging work you will ever do in your life, but the rewards far outweigh the struggle. It is always worth it—because you are always worth it.

4. The Mammal Heart in Relationship: Finding Your "Ride or Dies"

So, what does it look like to be in true alignment with other people while honoring the mammal heart within?

It looks like safety, peace, and genuine joy alongside people who love and care about you. It feels like being deeply seen and understood for who you are—without the exhausting need to over-explain yourself or shrink to make others comfortable. It means being in a space where others truly want you to express yourself without judgment or malicious intent. You feel no obligation to perform or be anyone other than who you are.

For me personally, alignment feels like freedom and ease, free from the lingering fear of becoming a burden. One of my personal trauma patterns centers around feeling unimportant or like an obligation. When others make me feel genuinely safe and accepted, I know I've found keepers.

Because I'm a writer by nature, my spoken words sometimes come out jumbled or confusing when I'm speaking from the heart. But with people who accept me, I feel encouraged to express myself fully anyway, because I feel safe. I can build real trust with people who love me for who I am, not for what I can do for them.

We are human-beings, not human-doings. We are meant to live in the moment and experience this world with our whole selves. The people who share that desire are the ones who show up even when you aren’t at your best—the ones people refer to as their "ride or dies."

5. Tuning Into Your Carnal Instincts

When we listen to our bodies, we gain the ability to comprehend what our analytical minds haven't grasped yet. Our nervous systems are the main drivers behind our instincts—and our instincts naturally know how to guard our peace, protect our energy, and shield what we are actively building.

Instincts are what have kept us alive and thriving as a species for hundreds of thousands of years. They carry vital messages for us. While a few might be outdated survival responses, the majority tell the true story of what has been real for you up until now. They are designed to guide you straight to peace.

The goal here is to learn what your personal "Terms and Conditions" for existing actually require in order to work effectively. Ask yourself:

  • What does my body do when I need to enforce a boundary?
  • Do I need to take a verbal action, like expressing the boundary aloud?
  • Do I need to take a physical action, like walking away, grounding myself, or doing a stress-releasing activity?
  • What is my body urging me to do right now?
  • How can I support that carnal desire in a healthy, sovereign way?

III. Practicing Primal Sovereignty (How to Reclaim Your Vessel)

To continue from where we left off, here are some actionable ways to learn how to communicate with and understand your body on its native level.

1. Dropping Out of the Analytical Mind

To drop out of the logical mind—and stop the analytical mind-fuck of every piece of incoming data—you have to engage in physical, somatic grounding. Practices like breathwork, easy intentional movement, spending time out in nature, and vocal releases of energy force you into the present moment.

These seemingly simple tasks compel you to be intentional with your actions and reactions. Don't pass up the opportunity to bond with your physical vessel through raw action. These activities build self-trust, deep compassion, and fierce self-loyalty. They signal to your subconscious that you are willing to speak its language and allow it to express itself without judgment. Just like aligned relationships with others create safety and ease, we can cultivate that exact same sanctuary internally by reconnecting with our bodies.

2. Using "No" as a Sacred Code

When we enforce our boundaries and use "No" as a sovereign tool to walk away from dynamics that no longer serve our highest good, we open space for true alignment to enter. You never need to over-explain or justify your reasoning—no one is entitled to that explanation except you. If you state your boundary clearly, calmly, and consistently, there is no need to exhaust yourself trying to make someone understand what they are fundamentally incapable (or unwilling) to grasp.

Some people simply will not respect your codes. For example, I had to cut off my own grandmother because I explained my boundaries multiple times, and she repeatedly decided that my limits weren't "right" or the way things ought to be. She is a textbook example of a boundary steamroller—someone who simply doesn't care about your boundaries, desires, or needs. You tell her, "This makes me uncomfortable," and she demands an exhaustive explanation, only to conveniently "forget" the boundary later when it interferes with whatever self-driven mission to "help" you she happens to be on.

People who operate like this do not deserve your access. I don't care who they are or how long you've known them—their actions show you that they give zero fucks about your peace.

Remember the true, original proverb: "The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb." The bonds you actively forge with intention will always be stronger than the biological ones you are born into, because they are chosen contracts made with another sovereign being. You can forge deep, covenant-level bonds with family, but biological relation alone does not automatically guarantee respect, safety, or access, unfortunately.

3. Rewriting Your Personal Rules & Regulations

It is time to write your own rules and regulations for your reality. Personally, I am actively rewriting my rules to better accommodate my expansion. I cannot become the wise, wild, untamed woman I see myself being 50 years from now if I am still relying on the safety rules 8-year-old Jamelah created just to avoid conflict!

I need to adopt new parameters that allow me to grow, expand, and evolve as I gain wisdom and understanding. We are ever-changing beings who will never be the exact same person from moment to moment. You are already slightly different now than you were when you started reading this post! One of the fundamental laws of the universe is that change is constant and unyielding; we are continually in a state of flux, even when we aren't consciously aware of it.

Learning to operate in your own best interest requires zero permission or intervention from the outside world. It empowers you to step into total responsibility and command over your life. You get to reclaim your freedom, drive, independence, passion, and your innate ability to protect yourself unapologetically and authentically.

No one can dictate what works for you, because no one else is living in your vessel. Only you know what it feels like to be you, and only you experience your exact reality. No one holds that authority over you. Others can talk, judge, and suggest all they want, but at the end of the day, you make the final call on how you live your life.

Conclusion: Welcome Home to Your Wild Self

Step into that sovereignty and act on your free will to mold your life into something that deeply satisfies and fulfills you. Your body's ancient wisdom is more than enough to help guide you through this process. And remember, professionals are always available if you need personalized support—just be sure to find someone who encourages you and leans in without judgment. After all, you’re the one paying them!

At heart, you are an instinctual, elemental being—and that truth transcends time. We are creatures who function through learned information, felt sense, and lived experience. When we take the dedicated time to get intimate with ourselves and truly understand what makes us tick, our lives get fundamentally better.

Stop fighting the urges, sensations, feelings, and instincts rising up within you. They are sacred messengers meant for you to learn from—and no one else in the universe can perceive them, because no one else is you.
