Hello, my dearest Adventurers!
For the fifth and final week of Taboo Month, we will be talking about Death. This includes all the aspects that make it scary, and why we shouldn't resist the inevitable. I have to admit that most people avoid this topic, but I’m excited to talk about it with you today.
I’m not here to say this is a light-hearted topic, but it is certainly not one to avoid. We, as humans with working egos, are naturally afraid of the unknown because it involves uncertainty. We fear things we do not understand, and we tend to be loud about that fear in the silliest of ways. It’s the reason we have the word taboo to begin with—it wouldn't be prohibited if there wasn't an underlying fear, and it wouldn't be sacred if there wasn't reverence.
To avoid talking about death is like avoiding talking about sleep. We all need to sleep, and it is crucial to our lives. Death is the same way; we will all experience it someday, and it is a necessary component of our lives. We are beings of duality—we
embody, experience, and exude both positive and negative energies. We are never one thing or another 100% of the time.
Ignoring the fact that we are mortal removes all urgency, meaning, and respect for the life we get to live. We become complacent, believing there is always tomorrow, next week, or even next year waiting for us. But whether it is or not is none of our concern in the current moment.
In this post, we will talk about the things you need to know to shake off that fear of death, how to cope with it, and how to use it to propel you through life. So get comfy with your favorite beverage, a pen, and paper, and get ready to learn a thing or two, because death is only the beginning.
Part I: The Taboo of Non-Existence
When most people think about death, they believe you become a hollow shell of what you once were, mourned for your energetic absence, buried to become “worm food,” and that’s it. There’s no wonder a large number of people are terrified of death; that description leaves so much to be desired, with such a vague ending.
You may have even asked your parents or grandparents growing up, "What do you mean, 'that's it'?" I know I asked my Papa (grandfather) this multiple times. Finding out if anyone knew what happened after you died was a long-time side-quest of mine that I still ask people about every now and then.
This uncertain answer is what causes fear in the mind. The unknown is not something our brains care to embrace readily. In pre-modern civilization, anything that was not "normal" or regular was instantly seen as a possible liability. Because that instinct did such a great job at keeping us alive for the majority of human existence, it's ingrained into us. No one can know for certain what the other side or what death has in store for us, and because of this, our mind labels death as something to be feared—it is the greatest unknown we know.
The Gift of Mortality and Presence
We don't know when or how death will happen, but we know that we are here and now, and that we are biologically alive. Therefore, it is important to embrace the here and now. To take in what we see, hear, smell, taste, feel, touch, and experience fully is the most important thing we can do.
Knowing that at some point, we will no longer be, should encourage us to live our best lives at all costs, but for many, it cripples them. Instead, take the time to use all that you have to experience life to the fullest. Your body craves movement, your mind stimulation, and your spirit food. This act requires you to use all of yourself.
This act of being present is a form of self-love and an act of alignment. When you take the time to slow down, take a deep breath, smell the flowers, touch grass, or swim in the ocean, that’s when you can truly appreciate your life. Appreciate what you have and how far you've come, because you have come far, and you are so very strong—especially if you're reading this.
The Soul's Craving
When you take the time to indulge in all your senses, feel your emotions, and move your body fully, you raise your soul’s frequency by default. I believe we are energetic beings who came to have a human experience to learn. The act of fully being present in your "meat suit" is exactly what your soul craves. It’s how you show up for yourself and work through difficult emotions, situations, and conflict.
Being present opens you to possibilities and opportunities you would miss when you’re living distracted in autopilot. Again, it can’t be helped as our brains crave routine and regularity at their core. This is why being present is a continuous choice you must make each moment. This choice allows you to learn to the fullest and begin to live your most authentic life.
When we are done experiencing what we came here to do and learn, or “run our course”, we return to where we came: the spirit or ethereal realm. The world that is just out of reach yet always close by.
Part II: Reincarnation and the Soul's Journey
“If, when we die, we return to this other realm and not into nothingness, then why do we exist in the first place?” I’m so grateful you asked!
In my opinion, and from what I’ve learned, we come here to learn. We come here to experience the great slowness, simplicity, and duality that is life on Earth. Here, the lessons are deeply ingrained in the soul, allowing us to take what we have learned to our next life.
Each life gives us the opportunity to raise our frequency in our pursuit to reach love, the highest frequency there is. The frequency of Source, God, the Creator, or whatever form of divinity you associate with, is the frequency of pure love.
We often create contracts with other souls before we incarnate into these lives to teach us lessons—hence our family, friends, enemies, coworkers, and all the situations that come with them. We come here to both experience and teach others equally. Earth is a planet where we primarily rely on community and our own ability to choose our reactions to external stimuli.
Life is a Chapter, Not the Book
When we choose to come here and live this life, we choose to embrace all the qualities this planet and being human has to offer. We decide that this course of action is the best one for our souls to reach that higher frequency. This isn't just an endless amount of chances to learn; it's a fleeting gift. We choose everything to be just right to help us grow to our highest frequency.
When we choose to not learn the lessons, we come back and live similar situations as before, causing similar cycles and generational or collective trauma to run our lives. In this state, we are choosing to just let life take us rather than take it into our own hands.
The concept of reincarnation is not a punishment; rather, it is a way to become something new. With each incarnation, we are different, with different childhoods, families, geographical locations, and even self-expressions.
Think of each life as a book in a series, and each book is full of chapters. Each life contains many chapters, and each day we get the opportunity to write the next sentence. We get to write it one word at a time, not all at once. This is why we incarnate: to experience the lessons in sections. We are not able to do everything at once, and a place like Earth allows for that necessary segmentation.
As I mentioned earlier, it is vital to take things slowly so you can be present and open yourself to the moments you would otherwise miss by simply going through the motions. This life is an irreplaceable and vital book in your soul’s journey. With each death comes the ending of a book, but not of the series. You are a rich trove of information passed down through billions of energetic exchanges, with each one building on past experiences and teaching you deeper lessons. Each moment counts; you are always receiving energy exchanges with everything around you, not just people and animals. Again, this is why being present is truly a gift.
Part III: Living Better Now: The Freedom in Knowing
So, death doesn't seem like such an awful thing now, does it? But it does seem to be constantly looming over us as a major unknown. How do we decide what to do or how to make each moment count?
One powerful exercise you can do is the Deathbed Test, where you think about what you would let get to you or interfere with your day if you were dying tomorrow. I do this a bit differently and look at what I can enjoy today that fulfills my goals in some way. Either way works—ultimately, this is a "whatever is better for you" type of deal.
Taking the time to look at your days as a steady march towards death provides you with a completely different way of looking at life. You begin to do things that genuinely satisfy you, work towards your goals, enforce your boundaries, and protect your energy.
The Power of Radical Forgiveness
This shift also helps you learn that forgiveness isn't about them; it’s an act of self-preservation in the most compassionate way possible. You forgive and recognize that others were only doing what they could in that moment to the best of their ability. Even if they fundamentally knew it was wrong, the lesson clearly hadn't set in, and they haven't come to terms with that internal battle. It has nothing to do with you and everything to do with them.
Now, this forgiveness doesn't come with immediate grace. Don't you forget what happened. Respect, trust, love, loyalty, kindness, or even lives may have been broken down, and that takes time to rebuild. But learn to understand on a deep level that forgiveness is for you. Resentment, pain, anguish, and holding onto negativity in general wreak havoc on the body, the psyche, and the people around you. That heavy burden of negativity only aids in holding you back from your blessings.
Learn to Be in the Moment
As I've kept reiterating throughout this entire message, make the choice to be in the moment. Don’t get caught up in going through the motions or following someone else’s dreams and missing out on your own damn life. You will never get to be this version of you ever again; you are always changing. The only two promises I’ve come to know as universal laws are that the only thing promised to you is perpetual change and death. Even now, you're closer to your end, and you are no longer the same person you began reading this post as.
Conclusion: The Celebration of Life
The whole point of this post was to expose the roots of the fear and hopefully show you a newer, more wholesome perspective on death. Even though death is an uncertain topic that has lots of bad juju associated with it for no true reason, it's vital to talk about dense topics like this that are often shot down or ignored. Remember, we are all mortal beings in this human suit, but we are eternal in our energetic bodies. Let’s be in the present and stop fighting the inevitable.
Staying in the present allows you to stay open to your intuition, messages from the Universe, and opportunities you'd miss otherwise. When you choose to be present, you also choose to live the best life you’ve lived yet. Your relationship with yourself will become stronger, more defined, and solid in yourself. The more confident you are in your own skin, the more attuned you remain to the world around you. You will recognize what drives you to get up, be you, and what you need to pursue your own dreams. This adventure is yours and yours alone; you can choose to be mindful or mindless.
