I am Jamelah Luckett. I am a Homo sapiens sapiens like you, I suppose if you were a canid that would be super cool too, definitely leave me ‘woof’! But on a more formal note, I am a young black woman who originally hails from the city of Lynnwood in the beautiful state of Washington, and I'm proud of it. I have since lived in 3 other states and had very different experiences that have changed the way I live, experience life, and just overall exist in this world.
(Trigger Warning: The following section contains mentions of a past abusive relationship and mental health struggles. Reader discretion is advised. It ends at the resources.)
In Texas (the first time) I learned I don’t enjoy South Texas weather. I also learned I really don’t tolerate people who embrace ignorance and who run from information/wisdom. In Wisconsin (when I went to college in person) I learned that good friends and good vibes are things I cherish more than other types of connections. I also learned that I had PMDD (PreMenstrual Dysphoric Disorder), PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), anxiety, and that there might be a possibility of me being on the ADD/ADHD spectrum. In New Mexico (after I dropped out due to COVID-19 and a lack of accommodations) I learned my self-worth, I learned how to listen to my body’s loud messages, and how to grow despite being surrounded by negativity. I moved back to Texas (after a horrible relationship that literally drained the life out of me), and I learned to listen to my body on a spiritual level, and to lean into the small messages. I also learned that I need to surround myself by loving caring people who give a fuck about me and my well being over people who lie and hurt out of their own pain. I received a painful catalyst (in the form of realization) that pushed me to trust myself, my instincts, my body, and to push for the best for me without stepping in other people’s shit (I don’t want that on my shoe, eww). (I will make posts going into details of these experiences for those who are curious or who are experiencing similar things.)
If you need immediate resources, I have provided some below, please reach out for help, your life is precious, and I love you too much to lose you to the struggle.
If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse or mental health challenges, here are some resources that are helpful:
Through these experiences, I've discovered the power of self-reliance. I've learned to prioritize my well-being, recognizing that I must first fill my own cup before I can effectively help others, just like putting on your own oxygen mask on an airplane. My academic journey is a testament to my dedication to both animals and people. I am currently pursuing a dual major in Applied Biological Sciences (Preveterinarian Medicine) and Psychology, with the long-term goal of obtaining a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and a PhD in Psychology. This unique combination will enable me to help people better interact with and coexist with their animal companions and farm/breeding animals, fostering a deeper understanding and connection.
I’ve had a passion for helping others and that has only gotten stronger as time passed. As a child, I hated seeing others cry or upset so I did my best to cheer them up. I have decided to stop being scared and to step into my future, to step into what sets me on fire and brings me joy even when I feel like I’m lacking or ill-equipped to handle the situation. I want to teach others how to love themselves the way I love myself and how to truly have a better quality of life regardless of the outside circumstances. Because I have found my path while going through it, and I want to uplift others to a better life, their better life, whatever that looks like for them.
I am in no way a certified doctor or philosopher, yet. I do however feel that as humans we should be willing to help each other live their best lives, and that is the intention of my efforts. I am here to bring uplift and talk about the difficult things others might not. I am not an expert and I can and will be wrong. Regardless of my shortcomings and imperfections, I will always follow my ambitions to help all living creatures because if you’re thriving we all thrive.
As we embark on this adventure together, I hope to share valuable insights and give you a quality that you enjoy and gain from. I aspire to be open, honest, and real so we can relate in my efforts to encourage your personal growth. I hope to give you more value than the effort you exude to be here and immerse in this experience I’m crafting.
With Love and Gratitude
P.S.- That is a filler picture of one of my cats, Mistress Grace. I promise to post an image of myself soon (I talk about this in my first blog post).
